Norton JV Tourney
Dawgs Travel to Norton
Teamwork and corporation are some of the main points in sports. As a team, the JV Quinter High School boys basketball works together well with only 6 players. On December 7, 2011, the athletes traveled to Norton to play a tourney against the Trego Golden Eagles and the Oakley Plainsmen.
The Bulldogs matched up against the Golden Eagles in the first game of the tourney. The Dawgs kept up with the Eagles and almost came away with a win. They lost the game by two points, 30 – 32. Considering that the Dawgs only had 6 players they played hard and competed really well. “During the game we had way too many turnovers, which we could have fixed if we would have taken care of the ball. Overall though, I thought they did well, considering that we didn’t have many players,” stated Coach Brian Roesch when he was asked about the Trego game.
After the match up with Trego the Dawgs moved on to play the Oakley Plainsmen. Throughout the first half of the game, the Dawgs had awesome momentum. They made a total of 24 points in the first half. After half - time though, they lost some energy only making a few more points, but for only having 5 players play they did pretty well. The Dawgs lost the game 32 – 50. “For having only five players during the Oakley game, we played well in the first half, but we lost our energy during the second half of the game. I think we could have done better if the guys would have slowed down and not let the other team have the ball as much,” responded Coach Roesch when he was asked about the Oakley game.
After all the hard work and facing defeat in to both games, the Dawgs still came out strong, learning how to work better as a team and knowing what they did wrong. Overall they guys did good and had a lot of extra playing time to get ready for varsity basketball. “Of course when you only have 6 players you’re going to get worn out over time when you have to play against the bigger teams,” stated Jason Werth. “I think we could have won the games if we would have boxed out more and worked on transitions. Being a JV player is going to help me become varsity at some point and that’s just awesome,” finished Werth.
