Computer Applications I : This class will allow students to gain confidence in the use of the computer for personal, school, and business applications. Students will reinforce their knowledge of the keyboard. Using computers, students will format a variety of documents including letters, envelopes, reports, tables, and other forms. Students will access the Internet to conduct searches and explore current technology topics. Students will use the industry-standard software package, Microsoft Office Professional to learn efficient use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications and how to integrate them effectively. Students will learn to be organized and responsible by putting together and organizing a file of their work.

Computer Applications II: Students will extend their knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software as they apply to the business world. They will learn to use web design and video production software. Students will also learn key business concepts including entrepreneurship and communication skills. Simulations and projects to apply and integrate business and computer skills will be used to evaluate the students understanding and to put them into a "real world" situation. Students must be able to work independently.

Personal Finance: Personal Finance will provide students with the understanding of Consumerisn, Financial Institutions, Savings and Investing, Credit, Insurance, Budgeting and Personal Income Tax. This course will prepare students for financial life experiences through projects and hands on simulations. Students will participate in a ten week Stock Market Game Simulation provided by the Kansas Council of Economic Education.

Accounting I: In this class, students learn concepts and procedures which businesses use to prepare accounting records. As an individual keeping his or her own records or as an employee or manager or owner of a business, one needs to understand accounting. Accounting involves collecting, documenting, and reporting on financial transactions within a business. Financial reports showing profit or loss are necessary for making business decisions. Journals and reports are prepared manually followed by application of the principles using computers, spreadsheets, and accounting software.

Accounting II: This class is a further study of accounting which focuses on reviewing the steps of the accounting cycle, extending the study of assets, liabilities, and equity accounts, understanding business information as presented in financial statements, and accounting for partnerships and not-for-profit organizations, and corporations.

Accounting III: This is a further study of accoutning which focuses on special accounting systems such as department accounting, branch accounting, internal controls, manufacturing accounting, product costing, managerial cost control, profit relationships, and making pricing decisions. Only students wishing to pursue a career in accounting should take this course. This is generally an indepentant study course.

This is a closed course.

IHT: IHT is a vocational business program which operates as a business--not a classroom. IHT members complete jobs, which are provided by members of the staff and community. Students will use (or learn to use) computer software and other business skills needed to function successfully on the job. Most of the class time is primarily spent on "live" work for customers. Because of the students contact with the community they must be responsible and make ethical decisions. Students must be able to conduct themselves professionally even when they are not being supervised. Students are required to have references.
